Due to the available space, I needed to go with a top loading fridge. For an easier installation, without the need for vents to the outside, I decided to go with a 12 volt compressor fridge rather than a 3-way 240/12v electric & gas fridge.

I chose a Webasto BI41 Top Loading 41L Marine Campervan Caravan Fridge Freezer for about £600. It was worth every penny.

Having used both styles of fridge, I was surprised to find that I prefer top-loading fridges. Why? The sheer capacity and easy of fitting all of our food and drinks in was exactly what we needed. The fact that it was a compressor 12v fridge which never had an issue on slopes (unlike a 3-way fridge) and never ran out of electricity due to our sola set up was an added bonus. The only downside was that we could only have it as either a fridge or a freezer, not both.
