We took a trip to Cardiff this weekend, to simply soak up the atmosphere and visit some pubs and restaurants. Here are my top three pubs for great beer selections, good atmosphere and that are dog friendly.
THE CAMBRIAN TAP
A small but perfectly formed pub with a mixture of large tables and small booths. A good venue for an afternoon drink, The Cambrian Tap houses a solid range of ales from traditional through to IPA which is particularly popular at the moment. I however; like this pub as it also has a couple of great lagers and a range of ciders on tap too, which can be a rare find in an ale/beer focused pub.

BREWDOG
A great chain that stated small and is now growing rapidly. BrewDog captured my heart years ago drawing me in with their funky artwork and keeping me as I learned more about their culture and passion.
Be open to try anything, the staff are always happy to recommend ales and let you have a small taste before you buy. BrewDog has also extended their range, so if you are like me and not massively into ales you should be able to get a craft lager or cider too. I’d recommend the Clean Water lager – with 100% of the profits being donated to water charities in the developing world.
TINY REBEL
This is a great place, particularly for an evening drink, or several! A welsh brewery with a couple of bars they have a great selection of ales on tap. They do also have a couple of lagers and ciders, but I have to admit that I can always find an ale to drink here, even although I struggle usually. An alternative, slightly grungy (in an edgy and clean way!) I really enjoy the atmosphere in the Tiny Rebel and would thoroughly recommend it as a local gem.
If you fancy taking a trip here and want to camp within walking distance of all the action, check out my post Camping in Cardiff.
If you know Cardiff better than me and know of any great pubs or restaurants that you would recommend for my next trip there, let me know I’d love to hear them!
